Fuel Cost Calculator
Formula: (Distance ÷ MPG) × Gas Price • Live results — nothing is stored.
Fuel cost depends on exactly three things: how far you drive, how efficiently your car uses fuel, and what you pay per unit. First divide distance by efficiency to get the fuel you will burn, then multiply by the price.
A 300-mile trip in a car that gets 25 MPG, with gas at $3.50: 300 ÷ 25 = 12 gallons, and 12 × $3.50 = $42.00 — about $0.14 per mile. Going there and back? Tick "Round trip" and the estimate doubles to $84.00.
This tool prices the fuel only. The full cost of a mile also includes tires, maintenance, insurance and depreciation — which is why official mileage reimbursement rates are several times higher than the fuel-only figure. For the per-mile view, try the cost per mile calculator; for tolls and splitting with passengers, use the trip cost calculator.
The math is exact; accuracy depends on your inputs. Use your real, measured MPG (not the sticker figure) and the price where you will actually fill up, and the estimate lands very close.
Yes — switch distance to kilometers, efficiency to L/100km or km/L, and price to $/litre. Everything converts automatically.
Lower MPG. At $3.50 a gallon, a 20 MPG SUV pays $0.175 per mile while a 35 MPG sedan pays $0.10 — a 75% difference over the same distance.
