Divide your trip distance by your car's MPG to get the gallons you will use, then multiply by the gas price per gallon. Example: 300 miles ÷ 25 MPG = 12 gallons × $3.50 = $42.00. Or enter the three numbers in the calculator at the top of this page.
Total Gas Cost = (Distance ÷ MPG) × Gas Price. Cost per mile = Gas Price ÷ MPG, and gallons used = Distance ÷ MPG.
Use the figure that matches most of your drive — highway MPG for long interstate trips, city MPG for stop-and-go commuting, the EPA combined figure for a mix. Your own tank-to-tank measurement beats all three.
